Finally booked flight and accommodation for the next holiday! To Phuket in Dec! Finally had smth to look forward to and plan haha. Ok, back to the travelogue!
Day 2 started early as we had a train to catch to Suncheon and the journey to Hyangilam was long. But anyway, the sun was up early at 5 plus and shone into the room.
We had a rather filling breakfast at the guesthouse before setting off. Told the rest to eat more as I expected the journey to be long and not sure when we can have the next meal.
Toast and cereal for breakfast.
Had think 3 slices of buttered toast? They use Ottogi brand for everything. They even have butter n strawberry jam!
And cereal! More chocolate cereal for me hehe.
After a filling breakfast (though not exactly satisfying as what piggy kept saying), we took bus 111 to Hyangilam. Thanks to the information given by the counter staff the night before, we knew the timing n which bus stop to take the bus from.
The bus ride was supposedly 1.5 hours, but thanks to their superb (?) driving skills and the smooth traffic, we took only about 50 mins.
They have the timing of the bus at the terminal, though not very accurate.
From the bus stop, walked up with the ocean on the left side. Before the GS 25 convenient store, turn right and follow the road upward.
The entrance of the steep slope up towards Hyangilam.
Clear signage at the entrance.
Before conquering the steep slope, BCX needs Kimbap power haha. Spot BCX heading towards GS25.
All excited on Kimbap.
Always having the tuna one.
I had Iced Americano! The one that's in a packet and poured into the ice cup at the counter.
Happy and satisfied after having Kimbap to conquer the slope lol.
Many street vendors selling the Gat Kimchi which Yeosu is famous for.
Tried one and omg. It's spicy, the wasabi kind of spicy that is qiang4 and stays in your mouth for some time. :(
The stalls are all very generous with the free sampling, unlike the super stingy ones in SG.
The squid is rly quite yummy surprisingly. Din't want to try but mum kept insisting that it's nice.
Every stall selling the same Gat Kimchi lol.
There's an observatory area near this stall, and we went there for a short break to admire the scenery before climbing again haha.
Mum's insistence with the umbrella -.- in the way of the photo.
Welfie! Finally kept the umbrella haha.
Then we continue the quest up!
Many street food stalls along the way up.
Orange juice.
The super friendly and generous vendors kept offering us samples whenever we take a look at their stalls. Even offered us Sikhye!
Finally reached! Erm, the ticketing counter of Hyangilam haha.
2000krw for entrance ticket.
Climbing up!
And actually like what they said, there's no one checking tickets, so I wonder how they make sure we paid for the visit.
That flight of stairs was just a start! More stairs up to Hyangilam haha.
But at least, there are pit stops and photo spots along the way!
Speak no evil!
Hear no evil.
See no evil!
Stopped by another observatory like spot for phototaking!
Cafe at the observatory deck but closed.
And then we continued our hike up.
Helped a family to take photos and he kindly helped us too! But causing a jam behind as it was a narrow path up lol.
The scenery along the way! Before reaching the peak of Hyangilam.
And finally! Tada!
This temple reminds me of Haedong Yonggungsa in Busan which is also by the sea. And also requires quite a walk in from the bus stop. But this is a rly tough walk in lol.
We explored the parts at the back of the temple first.
Act yi ge model photoshoot.
Following what the locals did haha.
The architectural details.
The view from the temple which we climbed all the way up for!
Then we made our way down towards the entrance gradually.
As we walked down, more stalls selling seaweed, which we bought back!
The cafes along the way with great atmosphere but dint get to try cos we were looking for lunch rather than tea break.
The pretty little pink flowers that reminds me of TW.
We decided to have lunch here, where we had to sit on the ground.
With a view hah.
The menu. Which we had 2 seafood pancakes (again we only had it once throughout the trip), and 2 portions of seafood bean paste stew.
Comfortably settled down for lunch.
The banchan! So many of them! The anchovies and marinated squid is quite nice!
Mum thinks that this place serves the best banchan!
Seafood pancake which we had 2.
And 2 portions of seafood bean paste stew. Seafood being flower crabs.
Had 2 portions of rice for BCX n dad. Which is mixed with brown rice.
Scooped out portions of bean paste stew.
BCX wasnt too happy with the lunch and more than happy to settle it at GS25.
With Kimbap and Teri Burger!
And with happy tummies, we took the bus back to the main island and change bus to head to Odongdo.
Waited quite a while for the bus 111 to head back to the stop near our guesthouse and change to bus 2 to Odongdo.
Shall continue the Odongdo travelogue in the next post!
