New Zealand Trip 2023 Day 3 ~ Piha, Coromandel

Day 3 started with heavy rain. Our plan was to visit Mount Eden for a good viewpoint of Auckland and it was raining pretty heavily when we arrived.
We attempted to walk up but as we start, the rain got heavier and we decided to not brave the rain as lesson learnt from the previous trip (since we won't be able to get a good view after the effort to hike in the rain) and just proceed with a good breakfast.


This is how foggy it is when we arrived.


Breakfast was at MIBO with Pistachio Croissant!



Bad a breakfast Bap and Sausage roll with pistachio croissant while watching the rain.


We wanted to wait for the rain to see if worth to give Mount Eden another try but the rain didn't stop and we left the area. 

We stopped by a mall on the way for a toilet break and stretch our legs while the rain continued.


We continued our roadtrip to our next stop - Mercer Bay Loops Track.

After parking the car, we hopped off ready to start the walk when the rain came back in. So we went back to the car and waited for 5 - 10 mins before the rain lightens to start the track.


Was still drizzling when we started.


So foggy!









Cleared up within 3 mins. Yes!











Glad that we waited for the rain to subside haha.









After that, next stop was the Upper Nihotupu Walk.
 








After this, we had plans for Karekare Falls, but we missed the turn due to road works and though we would still be able to access the fall, it required us to route quite a big round to get there. So we decided to skip it and move on to another fall lol.

Hunua Falls.









After clocking the steps for the day, it was time for a long drive to Thames for dinner. 


Dinner at Gastronomics Restaurant Cafe & Bar. Starting with Doris Plum Cider.


Calamari, was expecting it to be fried but this was pretty good.
Salt & Pepper Calamari
Fresh greens, house citrus aioli


Akaroa Salmon Fillet, Home Smoked
Mixed vegetables rosti, baby spinach, citrus and fennel hollandaise


Authentic Curry of the Day - Butter Chicken
Served with rice & poppadum, mango chutney, seasonal salad


After dinner, we continued the drive to Coromandel and it was quite a drive in the night. Checked in the motel quite late and forgot to take photos. That's all for day 3!
