New Zealand Trip 2022 Day 10 Part 2 ~ Diamond Lake Lookout, Lake Wānaka Lookout, Rocky Mountain Summit Track, Kika

So here we are at Diamond Lake and Rocky Mountain. We almost head up without our ponchos, but luckily we decided to bring them along with us.

Vaguely recalled that we were glad how we moved away from the clouds...

But as time passed, the clouds turned more and more grey..

First stop at the Diamond Lake.

Continuing to the second stop.

I guess that's the top of the Rocky Mountain.

Onward to the Lake Wanaka viewpoint.

Lake Wanaka viewpoint. We took a break here, enjoyed our peanut butter slug and it started raining.

Had to make a decision here - to continue on or turn back. With the experience the previous day at Isthumus, I decided to push on to continue.

But looking up towards the top of the Rocky Mountain...

Then the rain came and we were glad we brought along our ponchos.

No more photos beyond this point as my phone was just in my bag and I was struggling to stay alive lol. I almost slipped on a slippery rock and thereafter, I've got a fear when climbing over rocks (PTSD is real). We met a couple from Portugal and covered a section of the track together but lagged behind cos I was too scared while the lady was very skilled with the hike. Took a total of 3+ hours to get out of the track and my feet were soaking wet as the water entered from the top and got waterlogged. Was totally drained after the hike.

Headed back to the motel to clean up and change out and sent the clothes to wash so that we don't have to pack the soaking clothes with other cleaner clothes.

After that, it was finally time to have a good meal at Kika.

Wine at every dinner

Smoked & cured Ōra King salmon, dill, horseradish, seaweed lavosh

Kika Fried Chicken, tomato sugo, paprika and basil powder

Market Fish, green lipped mussels, cider, buttermilk whey, dill, leek

Frangipane, creme fraiche ice cream, mulled wine, torched grapes

After dinner, we took a short walk around the town centre but the shops are all closed. We hardly shopped or walked around aimlessly this trip as we are usually doing something nature and by the time we are back in town, shops had closed. Very different from our previous trip in Europe where we spent a lot of time exploring the Old Town lol.

That's all for day 10!
